Backend Development - Internship (WFH)

About the internship:We're looking for a Backend Developer Intern who enjoys working on the systems behind a SaaS product, not just writing isolated APIs.

You'll join a small product team working on an AI-powered SaaS platform that is already fairly advanced. Your focus will be to make the backend more reliable, secure, testable, and ready for beta launch.

This role involves working with real product infrastructure, including databases, authentication, background jobs, multi-tenant access control, APIs, and AI integrations.

Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:

1. Build and improve backend services: Work on APIs, business logic, authentication, permissions, database operations, and internal services.

2. Work on database architecture: Write and optimize PostgreSQL queries, maintain schemas, manage migrations carefully, and improve data consistency.

3. Strengthen authentication and authorization: Help maintain secure access control, workspace isolation, permissions, and role-based behavior.

4. Work with multi-tenant SaaS architecture: Make sure users and workspaces can only access the data they are authorized to access.

5. Maintain RLS policies: Work with PostgreSQL Row Level Security and test tenant boundaries to prevent unauthorized data access.

6. Build reliable APIs: Create clean and predictable backend endpoints that frontend developers can integrate with easily.

7. Work on background jobs and queues: Maintain scheduled tasks, asynchronous workflows, retries, failed-job handling, and other worker processes.

8. Improve reliability and error handling: Add validation, logging, failure handling, retries, and recovery paths across critical backend workflows.

9. Support AI and external integrations: Work with model providers, API abstractions, usage limits, external services, and provider routing.

10. Improve backend performance: Identify slow queries, inefficient data access patterns, and processing bottlenecks.

11. Work on privacy and data controls: Help implement account export, deletion, retention, and other user data workflows.

12. Write and maintain backend tests: Add or update API, database, integration, RLS, and service-level tests.

13. Debug backend issues: Investigate problems across APIs, database queries, permissions, workers, authentication, and system state.

14. Work inside an existing codebase: Understand the current architecture before making changes and avoid rebuilding systems that already work.

15.
