Job description

Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) Intern (Jest / Supertest / Playwright)

Work From Home | Internship Certificate | Mentorship (During & After Internship) | Join a Team of 10 Developers | Flexible Hours | IST Timezone | Paid Stipend

What makes this role unique:

You will write and maintain automation tests across the frontend and backend — using Jest for unit/component testing, Supertest for backend API testing, and Playwright for web E2E testing — for our 5 production apps. When existing tests break or are missing, you will debug and modify the underlying React Native / Node.js code to enable reliable automation.

Tech you'll work with – we have 5 apps on web, iOS, and Android:

Frontend: Expo React Native

Backend: Node + MongoDB

DevOps: AWS

Automation core: Jest (unit, integration, and component-level frontend tests), Supertest (backend API testing), and Playwright (web E2E testing)

You need to know one of these really well (mandatory): MERN or React Native or AWS.

And you must be comfortable reading/writing small code changes in Expo React Native or Node.js to unblock automation.

About the Internship

Are you passionate about automation testing across the frontend, backend, and web — writing solid unit, integration, API, and E2E tests? Do you want to work with Jest, Supertest, and Playwright – and occasionally tweak application code when it gets in the way of testing?

Join our dynamic team of 10 developers and gain hands‑on experience in:

Frontend automation – Jest for component and unit-level tests in Expo React Native

Web automation – Playwright for E2E testing of our web apps

Backend API automation – writing tests for Node.js endpoints using Supertest (and Jest as the test runner)

Debugging & code modification – fixing flaky tests by updating Expo, Node.js, or API response handling

CI/CD integration – running all automation (frontend + backend + web) in AWS pipelines

Manual & exploratory testing when automation isn't feasible

You will work alongside experienced mentors, receive an Internship Certificate, and contribute to impactful projects. This is a paid internship with a stipend of ₹3,500/month, which will be increased post-probation based on performance.

What We Offer

Work from home with flexible hours

Monthly stipend of ₹3,500, increased after probation based on performance

Mentorship during and after the internship

Exposure to multiple engineering areas: Frontend, Backend, DevOps, Automation, QA

Internship Certificate upon successful completion

After 3 months of internship, you get to apply for paid full‑time roles within the team

Requirements

Mandatory Technical Skills:

Basic programming – JavaScript/TypeScript (you will write test scripts)

Understanding of testing concepts – unit vs. integration vs. E2E, especially for APIs

Proficiency in at least one of: MERN stack or React Native or AWS

Good to have (but NOT required):

Prior experience with Jest, Supertest, Playwright, or Postman/Newman

Familiarity with Expo React Native or Node.js debugging

Availability:

Able to join daily sync‑ups at 7 AM IST

Open to working on Saturdays

Able to commit an average of 5 hours per day to internship tasks

Must have ≤4 hours of daily non‑internship commitments (including travel, classes, assignments, labs, exams, and freelance work)

Can commit to a 3‑month paid internship (stipend ₹3,500/month)

Can join within 1 week

Attitude:

Willingness to learn and work across different domains

Comfortable with both online and offline assignments

Apply only if you are comfortable with the stipend structure described above

Responsibilities

Write and maintain frontend, backend, and web automation tests using Jest, Supertest, and Playwright

Debug failing tests – modify Expo React Native or Node.js code when necessary to make automation reliable

Run all automation (frontend + backend + web) in CI/CD pipelines (AWS) and report results

Collaborate with developers to review test coverage and reduce flakiness

Participate in code reviews and daily sync‑ups

Hiring Process

Offline Coding Exercise – Complete an academic coding assignment (3–10 hours, depending on experience)

Live Coding (Google Meet) – Modify and discuss your code in a live session (1–3 hours)

Final Interview – Phone round with our CEO (30 minutes)

We do not retain, store, or share your assignment. It is used solely for evaluating your application.

After submission, we typically respond within a few days, and at most within 1 month, with next steps—either rejection or progression to the live coding round. If you are not selected, we provide constructive feedback. The entire process can take as little as 1 week or up to 1.5 months. If this timeline or the effort required feels excessive relative to the stipend offered, we understand and encourage you to apply elsewhere.

We have considered Indian labor laws in designing this assignment process.

Selection Statistics:

50% of applicants receive a take‑home assignment

10% of those submit the assignment

30% of submitters progress to the live coding round

30% of live coding participants reach the final interview

70% of final interviewees are offered the internship

Overall acceptance rate: approx. 0.3% (roughly 1 out of 300 applicants)

Additional Notes

This is a paid internship with a monthly stipend of ₹3,500, which will be increased after probation based on your performance. Apply if you are eager to learn, contribute, and grow with the team.

You will gain significant experience in frontend, backend, and web test automation (Jest, Supertest, Playwright), CI/CD, and working inside a massive production codebase. Pre‑Placement Offers (PPOs) may be extended to exceptional interns in the final month, based on performance, team needs, and company capacity. 5 paid team members we have now were all interns earlier.

After 3 months of internship, you get to apply for full‑time roles within the team.
