Product Designer - UX/UI Focus

CipherSchools is an EdTech company building technology-driven learning solutions, testing platforms, and a range of other learning products for individual learners. Our flagship product is a Learning Management System (LMS) that lets students watch training content, write and execute code, solve programming problems, attempt tests and assessments, compete in coding contests, and access industry-oriented sessions - alongside 2–3 other products built to support institutions, faculty, and academic programs. We are the driving force behind teaching and platform services for thousands of learners.

We're looking for a Product Designer with a sharp eye for UX/UI this isn't an entry-level design internship. We're looking for someone with hands-on design experience who can independently review our product's interfaces, spot what's not working, and design cleaner, more intuitive solutions with minimal guidance.

You'll be expected to bring design judgment, not just execution - understanding user behavior, defending your design choices, and knowing when a visual fix is enough versus when the underlying flow needs to change.

What You'll Do

Review our platform's existing UI/UX and identify usability issues, inconsistencies, and friction points

Propose and design improved layouts, flows, and interface elements

Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for new features or redesigns

Design supporting graphics — social media creatives, banners, presentation decks, and marketing assets

Maintain visual consistency with brand guidelines across all design outputs

Collaborate with the product, content, and marketing teams to translate ideas into clear visual solutions

Stay current on design trends and usability best practices, and bring relevant ideas back to the team

Who You Are

0 –2 years of hands-on experience in product design, UI/UX design, or a closely related design field, with real shipped work (internship background alone should also show independent ownership of projects)

Comfortable with tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, or Illustrator

Solid understanding of user-centered design principles — typography, layout, color, hierarchy, and usability

A genuine eye for spotting what's off in an interface, and the ability to explain why it's off

A portfolio that shows both visual design work and UX thinking (wireframes, flows, before/after redesigns, etc.), ideally with real or simulated product work

Able to work independently and defend design decisions with clear reasoning, not just aesthetic preference

Strong attention to detail and consistency

Good communication skills — able to explain design decisions clearly to non-designers
